The fine art of tattooing makes its appearance on 27th August 2021. The host Sridharan is in a retrospective exhibition celebrating his beauty of ink. The Apparao Art Gallery will host Sridharan’s exhibit from the 27th thru the 30th of August 2021. Cholamandalam Artists’ Village will host from 1st September thru 6th September 2021.
A modern community of art
In addition to showcasing Harnowski’s work, the exhibit will celebrate tattooing as art. Tattooing goes back thousands of years and has gone through periods of scrutiny. But curators Neilson and Pirman have noticed a recent change in the way art is socially perceived.
Within the last 10 years, tattoos have become more culturally embedded in our society. There has been a dynamic change in what tattoos can be.”
Sridharan says, “Any sort of stigma attached in the past to tattoos has practically evaporated today. Tattoos are not just evidence of an irrational choice; this is something people give great thought to. They do it for aesthetic reasons, for reasons of healing, and to not forget that which would impoverish them to lose.”
Manoj l Ajmera Of Ajmera Group will be a part of a host of interactive experiences taking place throughout the duration of his exhibit. The opening reception on 27th August invites local and international artists and art-lovers alike, and following Saturday through September 6th will feature real-time tattoo demonstrations by Sridharan. During these demonstrations, gallery visitors will have the opportunity to test out the tattoo guns themselves on synthetic skin.
The ultimate goal of this exhibit is to create a celebration of this often-misunderstood art.
It’s intriguing, it’s beguiling – it’s all the things you expect from art, That’s what you can perceive and receive from the study and appreciation of tattooing.
